Nepal has about 83% of its area mountanious.Within the span of about 200Km,the altitude varies from 61 meters from the sea level to 8848 meters which is top of the world.In fact this is the greatest altitudinal variation in world.This distinguishing feature of Nepal has a great diversity in terms of topography,climate,flora,fauna and lifestyle of Nepalese.Physically Nepal can be divided into three regions.
Mountain Region
Mountain region lies in northen part of Nepal.It covers 15% of Nepal's total area.The area above the height of 3300meters is considered as mountain region.This region has got three different division-Outer himalayans along the border of Nepal and Tibet in western section of the country,great himalays being the main part with various noticable ranges and peaks.
Hilly Region
It covers 68% of total area of Nepal.The area between 600m and 3300m falls under this belt.To the south of himalays hilly region extends mainly in east to west.
Terai Region
Terai region covers about 17% of country's total aerea. The land from 61m to 600m with the width of 25 to 32 km comes in this belt.This region is the most fertile.This is the most densly populated part of Nepal.
